Product Description
P21 (P021) is a synthetic peptide mimetic derived from a biologically active region of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF). The compound is commonly represented as Ac-DGGL(A)G-NH₂ and incorporates an adamantylated glycine modification designed during its development as a small neurotrophic research compound.
P021 has been investigated extensively in preclinical neuroscience models, particularly in studies examining neuronal development, neurogenesis and synaptic function. Research has explored its relationship with brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression, leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) signalling and downstream pathways involved in neuronal growth and plasticity.
Animal studies have also examined P021 in models involving abnormal tau phosphorylation, amyloid-associated pathology, synaptic deficits and age-related neurological changes. These studies have reported changes in pathways involving BDNF, TrkB, PI3K/AKT and GSK-3β, providing a basis for continued mechanistic investigation.
P21 may therefore be of interest to researchers studying:
- Neurogenesis and neuronal differentiation
- Synaptic plasticity
- CNTF-derived peptide mimetics
- BDNF-associated signalling
- LIF signalling pathways
- GSK-3β and tau phosphorylation
- Neurotrophic signalling
- Experimental models of neurological ageing
Published research on P021 remains preclinical, including cell and animal models. Findings from these experimental systems should not be interpreted as demonstrating safety, efficacy or therapeutic effects in humans.
